'Arrow' TV Series Revisited: A Batman Fan's Perspective

As a long-time Batman fan, my opinion on the 'Arrow' TV series is mixed and emotions-driven.

Profound Impression of Deadshot and Deathstroke

My excitement for Deadshot and Deathstroke remains undiminished, thanks to their phenomenal portrayals by actors Michael Rowe and Manu Bennett. Their roles in 'Arrow' are a testament to their talent and dedication, as I have followed their characters since childhood. Even with new actors taking over, their presence brings a nostalgic thrill, rekindling memories of my childhood.

Personal Disappointment and Criticism

On the flip side, I strongly disliked the series for personal reasons that go beyond mere aesthetic or narrative concerns. The Network CW, which owns 'Arrow', has been consistently criticized for its handling of DC characters. For instance, 'Arrow' often felt like a cheap imitation of Batman, ignoring essential character nuances.

Regarding Green Arrow, or Oliver Queen, his portrayal in 'Arrow' did not align with the character's comic book origins. His leadership qualities and the entirety of his rogues gallery were questionable, as they heavily simulated Batman, much to my dismay. The association between Green Arrow and the League of Shadows was particularly offensive, adding to my hatred of the series.

Positive Aspects and Enjoyment

Despite these flaws, there were moments where the series shone brightly, and Season 5 and 2 are regarded as some of the best seasons of TV I've ever watched. The adaptation of concepts and storylines from the comic book 'Batman: Law' into the series was well-integrated, making the borrowed elements flow seamlessly into the narrative. The series managed to maintain a straightforward dramatic tone, with a balance between superheroics and serious storytelling, which I appreciated.

Future Possibilities

Hoping for a Nightwing series in the future, I believe it could be a compelling addition to the Arrowverse, blending the serious drama with unique superhero elements. Such a show could explore the complexities of Dick Grayson's character and storylines, offering a fresh and engaging narrative for both Batman fans and newcomers alike.

While 'Arrow' had its shortcomings, its serious approach to superhero storytelling was a notable achievement. The series has left an indelible mark on the landscape of superhero TV, and my journey exploring it remains a divisive but fascinating venture.
